In case you missed this funky Southwestern elopement styled shoot on Green Wedding Shoes last week, here are a few of my own favorites! I am so thrilled to finally be releasing these photos! Click here to see the full feature on GWS!My inspiration for this shoot came from several different places. First, I knew that I wanted to do something brightly colored and bold. When I started thinking about the intimacy of a private elopement, I thought of my own quiet weekend mornings spent with my husband cuddled up under a blanket — him with a cup of coffee and me with a cup of sweet and spicy Aztec hot chocolate. I was reminded of Johnny Cash’s description of paradise: This morning, with her, having coffee.
I teamed up with Magnified Joy Photography for this shoot — a great husband and wife team with a passion for adventure. We planned to use Sunrise Amphitheater at the top of Flagstaff Mountain for our setting, but when we arrived we found that the road to the amphitheater was completely shut down due to snow! After hunting for a spot that wasn’t snow-covered and that featured the more natural brown and red earthy tones that we wanted, we made a last-minute switch to a location further down the mountain.
The food and drink items for this shoot, including the peppers, cinnamon sticks, coffee beans, Sugar Bakeshop pastries, and cinnamon- and coffee-flavored chocolates from Victoria’s Chocolates were all tributes to the Aztec theme and a coffee-induced paradise. With that in mind, our amazing florist from MJM Designs got to play with bright Aztec-inspired colors, textures, and patterns. (How cool are those cactus and proteas in the floral arrangements?!) The steer horns provided by Acorn & Oakleaf Vintage Rentals added the perfect amount of edgy flair and dimension to our tablescape. Because we wanted the shoot to feel quietly intimate, we used a real couple instead of models. I love how their natural chemistry is obvious in each picture and that the connection between them is organic and palpable. Thanks to Melanie + Tom for braving the cold like champs that day and to Pretty Bride Shop and Chanelle & Beauty for styling them perfectly!
