Someone was watching over Michele + Evan on their wedding day. First, their adorable dog, Lukie, was hit by a car during their first look (he’s okay!) and after a friend whisked him off to a nearby vet office to get him checked out, he arrived at the ceremony just in time to see Michele walk down the aisle as if to say “What? You think I’d miss this?” Then, we outran the rain (again) when the guests transitioned from the outdoor cocktail hour to the covered reception at the exact moment the skies opened and the usual afternoon thunderstorm commenced. Something magical was in the air.
Michele and Evan went to high school together in Pennsylvania and reconnected in Colorado after not seeing each other in over 17 years. If that’s not fate, I’m not sure what is. To reflect their joint love for the outdoors, they chose to get married at The Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park surrounded by mountain views and buffalo. In accordance with Evan’s family’s Quaker ties, their ceremony included the reading of a traditional Quaker wedding certificate. Evan’s young cousin got very emotional during the reading, which was very touching to see. (I might have cried again…are you seeing a trend with these blog posts yet?) The certificate was then signed by all attendees after the ceremony and it will hang in Michele + Evan’s home as a reminder of the commitment they made to each other that day and the commitment their guests made to support them — not only on the day of their wedding but throughout their marriage.
After a delicious Italian dinner, guests were invited to say a few words to the newlyweds open mic style, sample gourmet cupcakes baked by a local friend, and then dance the night away with a live bluegrass band. This was one wedding that seemed to flow naturally. Thanks to Michele + Evan for allowing me to be a part their day. It was such a pleasure to spend the evening watching the ear-to-ear smiles grow and grow and convincing little Lukie to drink the cups of water I brought him. Thank goodness he was there to help us celebrate (and help “mop” the floors)!
