Jessica + Jeff | Chatfield Botanic Gardens Wedding

Jess + Jeff’s wedding was as sweet and fun as they are.  Their relationship started with a few practice sessions for a 1990s-themed, coed charity tennis tournament in 2011…I’m pretty sure a first meet doesn’t get more fun than that.  Several years of dating and one chocolate Labrador later, Jess + Jeff got engaged at Strawberry Hot Springs in Steamboat and they set off to plan their dream wedding.

They chose to have their ceremony in the lawn next to the Green Farm Barn at Chatfield Botanic Gardens.  I loved this choice because it strayed from the norm of the more popular gazebo location.  The lawn provided a quiet intimacy, a unique option for chair configurations, and lots of shade.  After the ceremony, guests were invited to cocktail hour on the terrace, dinner inside the barn,  and dancing outside under the bistro lights.

The details were kept clean and simple, but the evening was still filled with personal touches (there were two handmade favors — caramel and chocolate dipped pretzel sticks from the mother of the groom and flower seeds from the mother of the bride) and great food (I heard more than one guest rave about the coffee-encrusted beef brisket with huckleberry jam that was served during dinner).  The speeches were memorable, the dancing was vigorous, and the bouquet was one of my favorites of all time.

Two of my favorite memories from the night that simply must be shared:

1.  I happened to be chatting with Jess inside the barn at one point during the dancing portion of the night.  All of a sudden, her eyes got big and she stopped talking.  The DJ had just started playing Call Me Maybe.  She grabbed my hand, apologized for having to leave so abruptly, and hustled out to the dance floor to make sure she could boogie with her groom to that song.  If you ask me, this girl had her priorities straight.

2.  After guests left for the night and I was amidst the hustle and bustle of packing things up outside, I came back inside the barn to find Jess and her bridesmaids tearing into the leftover two-tier cake.  Seriously, they were digging in with forks straight from the cake stand.  Naturally, I grabbed a fork and joined them for a few bites!  Again…priorities.

Congratulations to Jeff + Jess on a beautiful day and the start of a beautiful marriage.  I am so honored to have been there to witness the beginning of this great adventure.  Huge and eternal thanks to the incredible team of vendors that were a part of this one.  The day ran as smooth as could be because of the folks listed below, especially Ashley of Ashley McKenzie Photography.  She was cool, calm, on my side all day, and takes a mean photo!
